Over 15,000 Puget Sound residents come to Lake Meridian Park to celebrate the Fourth of July. The event brings family and friends together to celebrate Independence Day in their own community. Some of the fun free activities the entire family can enjoy are a hoop shoot skills course, a classic car show, old-fashioned games like "prizes in the hay," gunny sack races and a pie eating contest. A Community Showcase, presented by King County Journal, gives local talent an opportunity to perform on stage for their community. Other professional stage entertainment takes the stage and hands-on art projects are available for the kids. The day is highlighted by a performance from the full Rainier Symphony at 9:00 p.m. and they continue to play a choreographed performance with one of the largest fireworks displays in South King County.
