The Grand Parade will be on July 17th, at 2:00 pm. Along 4th Ave from Saar to James Street. This year’s parade theme is “Kent's Alive in '05”

Honorary Local Grand Marshall – Mayor Jim White Mayor White served as a member of the Kent City Council for 10 years before becoming Kent’s first full-time Mayor on January 1, 1994. He was re-elected to a third 4-year term in 2001. Mayor White and his wife, Edna, are long time residents of Kent. They own and operate Crown Hair Design at Southcenter Mall. Their four children attended Kent schools and now live in the area with their own families. In addition to all his duties and responsibilities as Mayor, he represents the City on numerous regional committees and he is recognized throughout the State for his tireless work on behalf of the City and especially transportation issues. He is very proud of Kent and he and City Council Members have worked hard to overcome economic challenges. The Sounder Train and parking facility, new cross-valley corridors, and especially the Kent Station Development in downtown Kent are examples – and evidence – of Kent’s thriving economic future.
Other Parade Information: Our children of Kent are encouraged to decorate their bikes and practice their parade waves as parents and friends look on the sidelines. There won’t be a separate category for the kids this year but rather a chance just to join in and have fun being in our home town parade. We are anticipating the presence of several floats including our very own Kent Lions “Kent Cornucopia Days” float. SEAFAIR pirates and clowns, Bag Pipes from Canada, and the Seattle All City band. SEAFAIR Royalty: In its 56th year, the tradition of SEAFAIR Royalty is rich with custom and acclaim. Known throughout the Northwest and as far away as Mexico and Japan. SEAFAIR Royalty serves as the official "mascots" for SEAFAIR and Greater Seattle. King Neptune Rex and the Prime Minister for decades have embodied the Puget Sound Area's image of fun, celebration and community involvement and esteem. King Neptune Rex and his Prime Minister represent the SEAFAIR Festival at key events throughout the year. They symbolize the dignity of the community and serve as greeters and promotional spokespersons for the festival. The King is chosen for his community leadership and stature. The Prime Minister is chosen from the experienced ranks of SEAFAIR and provides festival continuity and knowledge. The King is the highest honorary dignitary of SEAFAIR, is recognized as such throughout the Pacific Northwest, attends key SEAFAIR events and out-of-town festivals with the SEAFAIR Float tour, and serves as a representative of SEAFAIR and of the City of Seattle.

The 2005 Pete Gomes, Sr. Citizen of the Year Award recognizes an outstanding senior who has contributed to the community in addition to the Kent Senior Activity Center. This year’s recipient has been volunteering for a local chapter of one of the world’s oldest fraternal organizations. She has also served briefly at the Senior Center Coffee Bar, Hostess Desk and Meals on Wheels before volunteering to undergo extensive phone and computer training to be a back-up receptionist at the front desk.
