Letter from the Mayor of Kent & the Kent Cornucopia Days Director - 2007

It is our pleasure to welcome you to Kent and the 36th annual Kent Cornucopia Day's celebration held July 12 -15 with a multitude of activities, entertainment, and fun for the whole family.

South King County’s oldest and largest festival features a full size carnival and street fair with a wonderful array of booths offering a variety of items, magnificent smells from over 35 food booths to tempt the palate, and entertainment to capture your attention.  Join us Sunday in the downtown for South King County’s largest parade – nearly 100 entries.  With such a delightful assortment of activities, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

The beautiful "Cornucopia Dragon Boat Races" will be held on July 14th at Lake Meridian Park.  The Kent Youth Soccer Association will also host the "Cornucopia Cup" and will have over 125 teams this year!  And the King County Jaguars football team will play the “Cornucopia Bowl II” on July 14th also.

The Kent Lions Club produces Kent Cornucopia Days each year.  Club members and their dedicated volunteers have devoted thousands of hours to planning and organizing this festival.  They work hard to produce a successful event that appeals to all ages, groups and interests.  The City’s Parks Department and the Kent Arts Commission will again be actively involved organizing activities at the Family and Main Stages, Kids Art and Fine Art Display at Kent Station.  We hope you will join us in acknowledging all the work they do to bring such a successful occasion to Kent year after year.

We are happy to have you join us in celebrating Kent Cornucopia Days.  The volunteers thank you for supporting over 250 non-profit and charitable groups who depend on this great family festival.  We hope you’ll come back to Kent and enjoy our community and local businesses long after Kent Cornucopia Days are over.  Enjoy the summer!

Kent Cornucopia Days is another Community Service Project of the Kent Lions.  We are an all volunteer organization and committee.   This event is South King County's largest Family Festival.  This is a four day SEAFAIR festival that occurs in July of each year with nearly 300,000 people in attendance.  It's the largest Street Fair in the Northwest with just under 600 food (including two huge food courts), commercial and non-commercial vendors, the largest South King County Community Parade, a full size "Funtastic Shows" carnival and midway, continuous entertainment, and numerous educational displays. This year will again highlight our 12th annual "Skateboard & Inline Skate Tournament"; our 8th annual Kent Cornucopia Dragon Boat Races (at Lake Meridian), “Cornucopia Cup 2008” Soccer Tournaments (with the Kent Youth Soccer Association), and our 3rd annual King County Jaguars semi-pro football "Cornucopia Bowl III".  Also join us for our Lions Health Unit, Lions Bingo, Kent Valley Artist Show, and Beer Garden.   Kent Cornucopia Days is held in conjunction with the "Summer Splash" (a City of Kent, Parks and Recreation event over the 4th of July weekend) and the Kent Farmers Market (each Saturday starting June 7th - Sept 27th).  This is truly an outstanding event that benefits over 250 nonprofit or charitable organizations.   Come explore what we have to offer here!
